Although our hearts are in Virginia, we have a soft spot for New England, especially during the fall season when the leaves start to change. Which is only one of many reasons why we're excited to announce that our newest retail partner, Darien Sport Shop, is located in coastal Connecticut and has maintained a successful retail business for over 70 years. The Darien Sport Shop was opened on August 1st, 1946 by Stephen Zangrillo who had recently come back from serving in the army in World War II. The store originally opened as a one-room sporting goods store.
In 1954, Mr. Z (as he was affectionately referred to) moved the store to its current location at 1127 Post Road. It is Mr. Z’s dedication to providing a superior and personal customer service experience that has served as the business model since day one.
The store has grown to three levels and 45,000 square feet over the years and is now a full-service department store, carrying men’s, women's, and children's apparel along with gifts, outdoor games, and equipment. It is considered a town landmark and a shopping destination in Fairfield County. The annual tree lighting ceremony every Sunday after Thanksgiving has been the official kick-off of the holiday season for the town of Darien since 1978. We're thrilled to be a part of this retail institution and to expand Ledbury into New England.
